The Charter Oak-Ute elementary students attended their first quarter Reading Celebration in the gym on Wednesday, October 18th. Members of Mr. Lally’s fourth grade class kicked off the assembly with a reader’s theater titled The Corps of Discovery, about the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Following the student segment, Mrs. Oberreuter handed out the classroom Reading Awards from the quarter. She then talked about the various genres that the 3rd-5th grade students have been covering and read a fable titled The Baboon’s Umbrella. Students then shared what lessons could be learned from the fable.

It's time for our weekly Staff Spotlight, where we take time to introduce one of our amazing staff members to you, our community. We hope you enjoy getting to know us a little better. Today we introduce one of the MVPs of COU, Mrs. Becky Meadows. She works behind the scenes to keep our school clean and organized. She is our school Custodian.
Becky has been a constant fixture at the school for 26 years! Initially she worked at the Ute Elementary school as the custodian until it closed. She then came to Charter Oak where the schools combined and she worked as not only as a custodian but also as a kitchen staff. Ultimately she settled into her current position as full time custodian.
When asked what she loves most about working here she stated, “The kids make me smile. All ages of kids are fun to be around. I love making the kids smile too!” Becky also clued us in that her favorite school meal is Walking Taco. Yum.
Becky also shares her smiles and love with her wonderful family. She has been married to her husband, Keith, for 45 years. They have 2 sons, Nicholas and Dylan. Nicolas has two children of his own, Liam and Mila. Dylan and Marilyn have 3 children, Drake, Macy and Mona. Becky says she really loves being a grandma.
After work hours, Becky states she loves being outside and tending to her big garden. She also enjoys playing with her dogs and cats. Also she feels like her grandkids are amazing and she loves getting to be with them.

Student Council is putting on a Haunted House from October 27th-29th 6-10 pm. It is a free will donation and all of the proceeds will go towards the Jo Larsen family. Please feel free to come and support the student council!

The MVAOCOU JH XC was represented well. The boys team finished 4th with Zander Friedrichs placing 8th, Josiah Pietsch 19th, Parker DeVries 20th, Ryder Meseck 24th.

It's that time of year again. Parent Teacher Conferences are right around the corner on October 23rd and 24th from 4-7:30. Be on the look out for sign up sheets in your child's backpack. Please return them no later than end of day on Oct. 16th.

It's time for our weekly Staff Spotlight, where we take time to introduce one of our amazing staff members to you, our community. We hope you enjoy getting to know us a little better.
Today we introduce Mr. Chris Wood. He is our incredible K-8 Art teacher as well as 6-8 Computers & Industrial Tech instructor. He has called CO-U home for around 15 years. Previously he split his time between Boyer Valley and Charter Oak-Ute teaching high school shop. This changed when the high school moved to Mapleton. Now he is exclusively at CO-U in his current role.
All the staff appreciate different things about their job here. In Chris’s case, he loves the sense of Family among the staff and students. He stated, “I have taught in many schools, different sizes, states and locations, CO-U is one of the best places I have ever taught.”
Chris’s family includes his wife, Julie, his 4 kids, all graduated high school and his 2 grandkids ages 5 and 2 years old. After school hours he loves spending time with his family, traveling and camping.

Congrats to our 3rd-5th grade Bobcats of the week! They are Cole Dorale, Peyton Kropf, and Axton Rosenau! Great job kids!

Our 2nd grade class picked out leaves and made hand trees as a fun Friday craft!
